VOC Diagnostics AB
VOC Diagnostics AB was founded on 2017-07-27 by György Horvath, a retired professor from Gothenburg University, a specialist in Gynecological Oncology, and in Gynecology & Obstetrics. Professor Horvath is also a majority shareholder with 80% of the shares. In December 2017, GU Ventures AB invested in VOC and owns 11% of the shares today. During the last months, additional interests have been shown by investors, such as Stockholm University Holding company as well as private actors who have invested and are shareholders.
VOC Diagnostics AB's innovation is a further development of previous research that demonstrated that patients with certain diseases emit organic substances, known as "Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)", which can be detected by their scent. This innovation is now facing its breakthrough for the detection of ovarian cancer. It is György Horvath who has developed a patented instrument and analysis method that shows performance that no other available method achieves, including 92% sensitivity and 93% specificity. The sensitivity is so high that, in addition to being used for regular diagnostics in care, the product is a healthy, economically feasible means of screening a population to detect early cancer. By further developing the method, there is good likelihood of using it for early diagnosis and screening of other cancers, such as breast, lung and prostate cancer.
